ALLIANCE, Ohio - Capital University men's basketball fell on the road Wednesday night, dropping a 91-78 decision to fourth-ranked Mount Union at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex. Capital moves to 6-10 overall and 1-6 in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play. Meanwhile, Mount Union remains undefeated at 16-0 overall and 7-0 in OAC play.
The Purple Raiders entered the contest with a hot hand and showed their efficiency early, building a 54-38 advantage by halftime after shooting over 51 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes. Capital stayed within striking distance behind strong perimeter shooting but was unable to overcome the early deficit.
Capital was led offensively by Se'Ron Calloway-White, who finished with a team-high 25 points while going 8-for-10 from the free throw line. Dallas Tucker added 22 points, connecting on six three-pointers, while Chris Mitchell chipped in 13 points and a team-best 11 rebounds for a double-double. Julian Mitchell rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points.
The Comets shot 41.7 percent from the field and 40.6 percent from three-point range, knocking down 13 triples on the night. Capital also went 15-for-17 from the free throw line, capitalizing on opportunities at the stripe.
In the second half, Capital battled back and trimmed the margin to single digits midway through the period, but the nationally ranked hosts responded with timely baskets to maintain control down the stretch. Mount Union finished the game shooting 50 percent from the field and held a 42-18 edge in points in the paint.
