COLUMBUS, Ohio –
Kasey Duke scored her first career goal for the Capital University women's soccer team on Sunday afternoon in a 1-1 draw against Hardin-Simmons. Capital moved to 2-1-1 on the year, while HSU is now 2-0-2 overall.
Throughout the first half, both teams saw their chances in front of goal, but neither team could get a breakthrough.
Juli Sprague had Cap's best chance in the 40th minute before
Liv Alford faced her toughest test of the first half just a minute later.
After a halftime intermission, the Comets would find the breakthrough with a goal in the 52nd minute of play.
Kasey Duke finished a one-time shot from the top of the box into the lower left corner to put the Comets ahead and to mark her first career goal at the collegiate level.
Kendra Kovacs picked up the assist on the goal after sending a cross in from the left side.
Capital had a few chances to extend their lead throughout the remainder of the half, but possibly their best chance was a pair of sharp shots from
Maggie McGlone and
Taylor Duff that were saved in the 78th and 79th minutes of play.
Those saves swung enough momentum HSU's way as they leveled the score at 1-1 in the 81st minute off a goal from Tatum Barnett.
Capital again continued to press for a winner, but life was made difficult as an HSU defender sacrificed a red card in lieu of letting McGlone through on goal.
From there, the game ended 1-1 at the final whistle.
Alford finished the game with four saves, while the two HSU goalies combined for five saves.
