RICHMOND, Ind. – The Capital University volleyball team hit the road to Earlham College on Wednesday night where the team was upended by a 3-0 scoreline. The sets went the way of the Quakers via 25-20, 25-22, and 25-22 scores.
The result moves the Comets record to 1-11 overall, while Earlham improves to 10-5 on the year.
Ultimately the match was not very efficient offensively by either team as the Comets netted out their hitting percentage and Earlham managed just a .088 clip. The margin in what proved to be a closely contested affair came in defense as Earlham blocked Capital nine times and recorded 16 more digs in back line defense.
The Capital offense was paced by
Ryann Bunyak who landed seven kills.
Olivia Milton and
Chloe Preocanin were close behind with six each.
Kenadee Winters and
Carlee Thompson each had 10 assists.
At the service line, Capital had five aces – two from Preocanin and one each from
Shy Black,
Abby Brunner and
Samaree Perkins.
In the back row, Brunner scooped up 22 digs, followed by Black who ended with 10 digs.
Up at the net, Bunyak was in on three block assists, joined by Perkins (2) and Milton.
Abby Reed finished with one solo block.
UP NEXT
Capital will travel to Michigan on Friday, September 26th for the first of three matches of the weekend. The team will play Albion on Friday night before playing Alma and Calvin on Saturday.
