Women’s Soccer Rebounds With Win Over Hanover

HANOVER, Ind. – The Capital University women's soccer team got back in the win column, beating Hanover College on the road by a final score of 2-0 on Sunday afternoon. The win propels Capital to a 3-2-1 record overall, while Hanover falls to a 2-3 mark with the loss.

The Comets saw some good opportunities early on, but couldn't break through until the 22nd minute.  At that time, Kendra Kovacs got the play started by sending a cross across the box that was only partially cleared by the Hanover defense. The ball then fell kindly to Kasey Duke at the top of the box. Duke took a first-time shot that deflected off a defender and fell to the foot of Ava Spirk who looped a right-footed shot into the back corner of the net. The goal marked the first of the season for Spirk.

That 1-0 would hold for Capital into halftime and had the Comets in control. The control held early into the second half as Cap would double their lead in the 47th minute of play. The team earned a corner kick, where Taylor Marcum's service was headed on by Elise Buckerfield to the foot of Taylor Duff. There, Duff sent a first timed shot past the goalie to make it 2-0, Capital. The goal marked the first of the career for Duff.

That goal was enough for Capital who eventually cruised to the win at 2-0. At the final whistle, Capital finished the game, out-shooting Hanover, 12-8. Liv Alford made two saves in net while earning her second shutout of the season.
