COLUMBUS, Ohio – Capital University Director of Athletics and Recreation
Dr. Darrell Bailey Sr. has announced
Dr. Tracey Murray as the department's next Faculty Athletics Representative. Dr. Murray will replace Dr. Sally Creasap who retired from Capital University at the end of June.
"We are happy to welcome
Dr. Tracey Murray and her skills to Capital Athletics as our next FAR," stated Dr. Bailey. "In conversation with her, she spoke of her passion for both athletics and academics. I believe that that combination will help us push forward in supporting a holistic experience for our student-athletes."
The Faculty Athletics Representative is a member of the faculty at an NCAA member institution who has been designated by the institution to serve as a liaison between the institution and the athletics department, and also as a representative of the institution in conference and NCAA affairs. The role of the FAR is to ensure that the academic institution establishes and maintains the appropriate balance between academics and intercollegiate athletics.
Dr. Murray has been teaching at Capital since August of 2003 and just recently completed her 22nd year at the university. Murray teaches as a Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry and also currently serves as the Chair of the department - a role she has held since 2017. Throughout her time at Capital, she has been recognized twice by the university for her outstanding instruction and service to her students. In 2016, she was named the Isabelle and Homer Cotterman Award for Faculty Service to Students recipient, and in 2018, she received the Praestantia Award for Outstanding Teaching.
Dr. Murray completed her undergraduate degree in chemistry from Wittenberg University where she graduated magna cum laude. After completing her Bachelor's Degree at Wittenberg, Dr. Murray then went on to complete her Ph.D. in Biochemistry at The Ohio State University. There, she served as a Teaching Assistant while also concluding her own studies. She graduated from Ohio State with her Ph.D. just weeks before beginning her teaching career at Capital in 2003.
At Wittenberg, Dr. Murray was a four-year letter winner on the Tigers' swim team. In high school, she swam and also ran track. As a swimmer at Bucyrus High School, she became the first female swimmer in school history to compete at an official OHSAA event.
Dr. Murray has three daughters who all have been heavily involved in sports both at the high school and collegiate level. Her two oldest daughters are currently competing at the Division I collegiate level in cheer and rowing. In her free time when she is not teaching or supporting her children in their activities, Murray enjoys reading and walking her dog.
Dr. Murray replaces Dr. Sally Creasap in the Faculty Athletics Representative role ahead of the 2025-26 school year. Dr. Creasap had served both Capital University and Capital Athletics for an extended period of time as she had just completed her 22nd year at the school and her 17th serving as the FAR. While at Capital, Dr. Creasap was a distinguished full-time professor in Capital's College of Education and maintained a constant relationship with the athletics staff and assisted the academic progress of the student-athletes at Capital. On top of those responsibilities, Dr. Creasap also assisted in representing the department in several NCAA academic initiatives.
