Dr. Murray has been teaching at Capital since August of 2003 and just recently completed her 22nd year at the university. Murray teaches as a Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry and also currently serves as the Chair of the department - a role she has held since 2017.  Throughout her time at Capital, she has been recognized twice by the university for her outstanding instruction and service to her students. In 2016, she was named the Isabelle and Homer Cotterman Award for Faculty Service to Students recipient, and in 2018, she received the Praestantia Award for Outstanding Teaching.

Dr. Murray completed her undergraduate degree in chemistry from Wittenberg University where she graduated magna cum laude. After completing her Bachelor’s Degree at Wittenberg, Dr. Murray then went on to complete her Ph.D. in Biochemistry at The Ohio State University. There, she served as a Teaching Assistant while also concluding her own studies. She graduated from Ohio State with her Ph.D. just weeks before beginning her teaching career at Capital in 2003.

At Wittenberg, Dr. Murray was a four-year letter winner on the Tigers’ swim team. In high school, she swam and also ran track. As a swimmer at Bucyrus High School, she became the first female swimmer in school history to compete at an official OHSAA event.

Dr. Murray has three daughters who all have been heavily involved in sports both at the high school and collegiate level. Her two oldest daughters are currently competing at the Division I collegiate level in cheer and rowing. In her free time when she is not teaching or supporting her children in their activities, Murray enjoys reading and walking her dog.

Dr. Tracey Murray's office is located in Battelle Hall 392
