BALTIMORE, Md. – The Capital University volleyball team opened up the season with a 3-0 loss to Babson College on Friday evening. The match was played at Johns Hopkins University as part of the Greg "Gio" Giovanazzi tournament. Babson also entered the match receiving votes in the AVCA preseason rankings.
Despite the 3-0 scoreline, Capital was right there with the Beavers falling by scores of 26-24, 25-19 and 25-21.
The Comets had a fairly consistent offensive showing in sets one and three, but had a down set in set number two, contributing to the eventual result.
In the end, Capital was led offensively by
Chloe Preocanin who landed 11 kills, followed by both
Abby Reed and freshman
Olivia Milton with five kills each.
Carlee Thompson guided that offensive effort with 25 assists and even recorded three kills each.
Defensively, the Comets were paced by
Abby Brunner who scooped up 15 digs. Thompson was next with seven digs, followed by
Morgan Metzger (6) and Preocanin (5).
Shy Black finished with four digs in her first collegiate match.
Up front,
Samaree Perkins and
Abby Reed combined for one block.
At the service line, Brunner recorded four aces followed by two from Preocanin and one each from Metzger and
Makenna Sullivan.

Capital will play two more matches tomorrow at the Johns Hopkins Greg "Gio" Giovanazzi tournament. First, Capital will play the hosts and No. 4 nationally ranked JHU at 1 p.m. before battling Rowan at 3 p.m.
