WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Capital University track and field team concluded competition at the 2025 outdoor Ohio Athletic Conference Championships on Friday evening in what turned out to be a day interrupted numerous times by thunder and lightning.

Despite the elements and delays, the Comets found ways to put forth quality efforts in their respective events with numerous top-10 performances being met, and Justin Mathews recording an All-OAC showing in the men's triple jump as the day's highlights.

In the team standings, the men placed tied for seventh with Muskingum. The Capital women finished 10th. Mount Union claimed the men's title and Ohio Northern won the women's title.

FRIDAY – MEN
Shot Put: Nolan Piper placed 15th overall with his best throw registering 13.45 meters. Waylon Yeager placed 23rd with a mark of 12.31 meters.

Hammer Throw: Piper was back in action in his specialty, the hammer throw, where he placed seventh place overall, earning two team points. His best throw marked 50.82 meters which improves his own hold on the second best measure in program history.

Triple Jump: Justin Mathews landed himself on the podium, finishing as the runner-up in the triple jump – his second consecutive All-OAC finish in the event after he also reached the podium at the Indoor Championships. Mathews lept a distance of 13.92 meters to comfortably take second place. The distance also bumps Mathews into a tie for 6th all-time at Capital in the event. He is level with Sylvanus Eddy who also jumped 13.92 meters at the 2005 OAC Championships.

1,500m Run: Kolin Brake put forth a very strong performance in the 1,500-meter dash, setting a new PR by four seconds and placing eighth overall in the event to score a team point. Brake clocked a time of 4:02.86 which moves him up to fifth all-time in Capital history – the fastest Capital time in the event since 2013.

100m Dash (Finals): Cheik Souare finished fifth overall in the event with a time of 10.97 seconds which picked up four team points for the Comets.

4x400m Relay: The quartet of Justin Mathews, Dom Glenn, Cheik Souare, and Kolin Brake combined to run a time of 3:26.79 and finish eighth overall in the 4x400-meter relay. The group beat out Marietta and Otterbein by less than two-tenths of a second to grab the final point-scoring placement in the event.
