DELAWARE, Ohio – The Capital University track and field team traveled to Ohio Wesleyan University's Marv Frye Invitational on Saturday where they took part in their second outdoor competition of the season.
There, the Comets saw many student-athletes set new PRs and one being added to the program top-10 list. A couple other PRs came within fine margins of missing out on the program all-time lists, showing great signs for potential as the season progresses.
WOMEN
Hammer Throw:
Mia Sanchez launched a massive PR with a throw of 39.58 meters to place ninth overall in the event. Her mark just narrowly missed out on the program top-10 all-time list as well.
Secora Jones tossed 33.37 meters, while
DeiVon McCullough threw 31.64 meters.
Long Jump:
Zara Brown placed 15th with a top leap of 3.54 meters.
Shot Put:
DeiVon McCullough finished up 12th overall with a throw of 10.35 meters.
Mia Sanchez marked 9.06 meters on her best attempt.
Pole Vault:
Alex Wilkinson rounded out seventh best in the event, clearing a height of 2.90 meters.
1500-Meter Run:
Olivia Ellis shaved off loads of time in the 1,500-meter race, running a time of 5:11.86. The time was just about three seconds off the program top-10 list.
Catherine Schaub put forth a time of 5:37.54 as well.
400-Meter Dash:
Jaleea Harvey raced a time of 1:04.58 which set her ninth overall in the event.
100-Meter Dash: Harvey was at it again in the 100-dash, running a time of 13.83 seconds.
800-Meter Run:
Olivia Ellis ran a time of 2:36.80 to finish 10th-best.
Catherine Schaub was 19th with a time of 2:57.07.
MEN
Discus Throw:
Waylon Yeager and
Nolan Piper placed eighth and ninth, respectively with throws of 40.01 meters and 39.25 meters.
Shot Put: Piper this time finished atop Yeager in the shot put. Piper launched 12.64 meters to finish 11th, while Yeager was 15th with a toss of 11.71 meters.
Long Jump:
Justin Mathews placed seventh best with a jump of 6.21 meters.
Pole Vault:
Jason McColl competed in the pole vault where he cleared the bar at 3.15 meters to finish 17th in the field.
Hammer Throw:
Nolan Piper tossed a mark of 46.29 meters to finish seventh in the field of competition.
1500-Meter Run: The Comets raced six men in the 1,500-meter run. Leading the Way for Capital was
Mikey Arnone who placed sixth in 4:12.36. Arnone was followed by
Kolin Brake (4:14.44),
Zach Glotzbecker (4:15.56),
Aiden Mahony (4:24.02),
Aaron McNutt (4:26.07),
Jordan Hull (4:32.32), and
Aiden Smith (4:40.90) all ran quality times, with several coming as PRs.
100-Meter Run:
Cheik Souare paced Capital with a fourth overall finish. He ran a time of 10.93 seconds, while his counterpart –
Dom Glenn – raced in 10.95 seconds.
Justin Mathews was 25th in 11.92 seconds. For Souare, he adds his name to the fifth fastest time in Capital history.
4x400-Meter Relay: The quartet of
Dom Glenn,
Cheik Souare,
Justin Mathews and
Kolin Brake raced a time of 3:33.05.
UP NEXT
Capital will send athletes to the All-Ohio Championships next weekend, beginning on Friday and lasting through Saturday. That meet will again be held at OWU.
