Softball Uses Late Comeback to Earn a Split at ONU

ADA, Ohio – The Capital University softball team scored nine runs in the seventh and eighth innings of game two today, leading to an eventual 10-7 victory that earned the team a much needed split with Ohio Northern. The Polar Bears claimed game one via a 13-3 win.

Capital is now 13-17 overall and 6-8 in the conference. ONU is also 13-17 with an 8-4 conference mark.

GAME ONE
The Polar Bears jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and that proved to be enough to get them through as Capital only scored three in the top of the third.

Those runs for the Comets came on a two-RBI error by Autumn Bridges and an RBI single by Megan Parry

ONU added insurance to take the eventual 13-3 scoreline.

Capital collected four hits in the game. Two came from Reagan Irons and one each from Kyleigh Kirby and Megan Parry

Isabel Sayre (0-3) started in the circle and was relieved by Alyssa Miller

GAME TWO
Again in game two, Capital found themselves trailing 5-0, this time in fourth inning.

Despite being behind, the Comets got on the board in the top of the fifth on an RBI single by Autumn Bridges

After that, the Polar Bears scored two more to grow a 7-1 lead heading to the top of the seventh inning.

Down by six with three outs left, the Comets began to rally. In that inning, things were kickstarted on Reagan Irons' walk and progressed with a double by Shelby Allen, an RBI single by Autumn Bridges and an RBI single by Kyleigh Kirby. Then, with two outs Keaura Shilling walked before an RBI single by McKenzie Kennedy. The game became tied on Lyndi Hemmelgarn's two-RBI single that scored Kennedy and Shilling.

Heading to the eighth inning, Capital scored three more to eventually pull off the 10-7 win. The Comets got a big RBI single by Megan Parry and a two-RBI single from Michelle Brumfield to provide the difference.

The Comets collected 12 hits in the game – three from Autumn Bridges, two from Kirby, and one each from Parry, Brumfield, Kennedy, Hemmelgarn, Irons, Kelcie Schnitzler and Allen.

Alyssa Miller tossed a complete game, picking up her fourth win of the year in the pitcher's circle.
