Softball Celebrates Senior Day

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University softball team celebrated Senior Day on what turned out to be a cold and windy Tuesday afternoon at Clowson Field. Against the elements, Capital dropped both games of the doubleheader to Wilmington 14-6 and 11-1.

Capital is now 12-16 overall and 5-7 in the OAC, while Wilmington is 11-14 and 4-6 in the conference.

GAME ONE
Capital got in front early thanks to an RBI triple from Autumn Bridges in the bottom of the first inning. Bridges then scored on the same play as an errant throw sailed into the Comet dugout, making it 2-0.

Wilmington got a run back in the second, but Kyleigh Kirby continued her hot hitting of late and smashed a line-drive home run to center field to score McKenzie Kennedy and Emma Sweetman. The home run was Kirby's fifth in the past seven days.

After the Quakers cut back into the lead making it 5-3, Megan Parry hit another home run of her own with a towering drive to left center. That home run was her third of the year and second in four days.

From there, Wilmington got hot in the fourth inning and scored the game's final 11 runs to seal a 14-6 win.

Kyleigh Kirby was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored in the game. Emma Sweetman added two hits, while Autumn Bridges, Megan Parry, Reagan Irons and McKenzie Kennedy all added hits.

Isabel Sayre, Addi Parker and Alyssa Miller all combined to throw in the pitcher's circle, with the trio combining for five strikeouts.

GAME TWO
The Quakers again got their offense going, this time a bit earlier as they plated four runs in the second and then added one each in the fourth and fifth to make it 6-0. Then, in the top of the sixth, the Quakers erupted for five more to make it 11-0.

In the bottom of the sixth, Capital got their first run of the game on an RBI single from Megan Parry that scored Kyleigh Kirby from third.

Capital recorded just three hits in the game – one each from Parry, Kirby and Keaura Shilling

Alyssa Miller and Isabel Sayre combined to pitch the six innings, with Miller recording five Ks.

SENIOR DAY
Prior to game one, the Comets recognized seniors Ceilidh Cooper and Kelcie Schnitzler as part of Senior Day festivities.

Capital will hit the road on Friday, April 18th as they head to Ohio Northern University for a twinbill starting at 1 p.m.
