COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University softball team played host to John Carroll on Sunday in a rescheduled doubleheader. There, Capital split results with the Blue Streaks as they fell in extra innings 3-2 in game one before taking game two 6-3.
Capital is now 12-14 overall and 5-5 in the OAC, while JCU is 10-13 overall and 2-7 in the conference.
GAME ONE
The Comets fell behind 2-0 by the middle of the fourth inning, but they responded in the bottom of the fourth. There,
Reagan Irons hit a double to left center that led to an error which scored
Autumn Bridges.
In the bottom of the sixth, Capital tied it up at 2-2 as
Megan Parry's RBI double scored
Kyleigh Kirby.
With the score tied, JCU found a run in the eighth to win it.
The Comets had six players record one hit each – Kirby, Parry, Bridges, Irons,
Emma Sweetman and
Lyndi Hemmelgarn.
Alyssa Miller threw a complete game, allowing nine hits and three runs (one earned).
GAME TWO
The Comets jumped all over the Blue Streaks in the first inning, scoring five runs. Things got started on a two-RBI single by
Megan Parry and then continued as Parry scored on an error,
Laureli McMahon hit an RBI fielder's choice and
Lyndi Hemmelgarn scored on another error.
The Blue Streaks responded with three rus in the third to cut into the Comet lead, but Capital eliminated the threat and added an insurance run in the fifth on
Megan Parry's RBI single. THe final score carried to 6-3 in favor of the Comets.
Of Capital's 13 hits,
Megan Parry and
Autumn Bridges led the way with three each.
Kyleigh Kirby,
Emma Sweetman and
McKenzie Kennedy each had two base hits, while
Lyndi Hemmelgarn added one hit.
Alyssa Miller threw the first two innings and allowed two runs on a hit and a pair of walks.
Addi Parker then relieved Miller and finished the final five innings where she allowed just one run on four hits. She struckout four hitters.

Capital will be back in action on Tuesday, April 15th as they host Wilmington fr Senior Day. First pitch of game one is slated for 3:00 with senior day festivities taking place between games.
