COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University baseball team hosted Wabash on Sunday for two games in which they were defeated by scores of 15-9 and 15-4.
The results bring Capital's overall record to 13-21 and Wabash up to 20-7 on the year.
GAME ONE
The Comets went ahead early on two runs in the first thanks to a sac fly by
Ty Clifton and a RBI double from
Robby Harrison.
Wabash responded with four in the second to move ahead, but Capital responded to tie it in the third on a two-run home run by
Grayson Gulley.
With the score tied at 4, the visitors garnered the lead for good with a six-run fourth inning.
Capital scored consolation runs in the fourth and sixth innings, but they proved to be too little, too late. Those runs came courtesy of a 3-RBI double by
Ryne McKinney, an RBI single by Michael Andryzsczyk and an error.
At the dish, Capital compiled 15 hits, led by
Charlie Colson with three.
Kielan LaMarr,
Ty Clifton,
Robby Harrison,
Ryne McKinney, and
Grayson Gulley all recorded two hits each.
Cole Boroff and
Bryce Kyees also added one hit each.
Noah Bromberg got the start on the mound and threw 1.1 innings of work.
Ben Mohler,
Drew Pfundt,
Brian Young and
Sam Everts rounded out the remaining innings of relief.
GAME TWO
The Comets fell into a hole in the top of the first as Wabash scored seven runs before Cap could bat.
That proved to be enough for Wabash to hang on for the ultimate 15-4 win. The runs for Capital came on an RBI single from
Cole Boroff, a two-RBI single by
Tristan Burns and a sacrifice fly by
Gio Mastrorosa.
Capital recorded five hits in the game – two from Boroff and one each from
Ryan Brophy,
Diego Cancel, and
Tristan Burns.
Charlie Colson made his pitching debut for the Comets, and was relieved by a combo of
Nash Andrix,
Jared Carpenter,
Julian McCann, and
Diego Astacio.
