COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University softball team hit four home runs – three from
Kyleigh Kirby and one from
Megan Parry – in a doubleheader with Mount Union on Saturday, but ultimately dropped both games via scores of 10-5 and 15-2.
The Comets are now 11-13 overall and 4-4 in the OAC, while Mount is 13-9 and 3-3 in the conference.
GAME ONE
Kyleigh Kirby led off the game with a solo home run to left for Capital, putting them up 1-0.
After Mount leveled the score at 1-1 in the fourth, the Purple Raiders scored five in the fifth, two in the sixth and two in the seventh to extend their lead.
The Comets did get three back in the sixth and one back in the seventh though. In the sixth,
Megan Parry got things going with a two-run home run to center that scored
Emma Sweetman. Then,
Autumn Bridges hit an RBI single that scored pinch runner
Tabi Bailey.
In the seventh, Kirby would hit another solo shot, but it would only be consolation in the 10-5 loss.
Kirby and Parry each had two hits in the game, while
Megan Mlinaric,
Isabel Sayre,
Autumn Bridges, and
McKenzie Kennedy would all have one hit each.
Mlinaric started in the pitcher's circle and allowed just one run in four innings.
Isabel Sayre and
Alyssa Miller combined for the rest of the relief effort.
GAME TWO
Mount went ahead 3-0 in the second inning, but Capital got a run back in the bottom half of the inning to make it 3-1.
Keaura Shilling ripped an RBI double to the fence in left center to score
Reagan Irons.
Mount then controlled the offensive game, bursting out to a 15-1 lead before
Kyleigh Kirby hit another solo home run in the bottom of the fifth, making it a 15-2 final score.
Kirby, Bridges, Irons, and Shilling all collected two hits a piece in the game to lead the way at the plate.
Alyssa Miller,
Addi Parker and
Isabel Sayre combined in the pitcher's circle with the loss ultimately going to Miller.

Capital will look to rebound tomorrow, Sunday, April 13th as they host John Carroll for two games, beginning at 1 p.m. at Clowson Field.
