ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Capital University baseball team took to the road on Saturday where they traveled to Mount Union for two games. The Purple Raiders have been receiving votes in the D3baseball.com national polls this week. The Comets opened the day with a 6-3 win over the Purple Raiders, marking their second win over a team receiving votes in the national polls this week. Capital did fall 13-4 in the nightcap.
The results bring Capital's record to 13-19 overall and 4-8 in the OAC. Mount is now 18-7 overall and 11-1 in the conference.
GAME ONE
The Comets jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as Capital would hang on to secure a 6-3 win over Mount, who had entered the day unbeaten in their last 13 games.
The scoring got started in the first as
Ty Clifton and
Charlie Colson pulled off a double steal. Colson then scored on an errant throw by the Mount catcher to put Cap ahead 1-0.
In the second,
Kielan LaMarr knocked in two more runs on a single to left that scored
Michael Andryszczyk and
Bryce Kyees.
In the fourth, LaMarr added another RBI single, scoring Andryszczyk from third.
The offense continued into the fifth inning as
Bryce Kyees hit an RBI triple to score
Cole Boroff. Kyees then scored on
Grayson Gulley's RBI double to make it 6-0.
The Purple Raiders got back two runs in the fifth and a third in the seventh, but
Casey Wilkins would slam the door shut, earning his second save of the season.
At the dish,
Kielan LaMarr led the way with three hits and three RBIs, while
Robby Harrison had two hits.
Charlie Colson,
Cole Boroff,
Bryce Kyees,
Grayson Gulley and
Michael Andryszczyk each had one hit.
On the mound,
Trevor Woodyard got the start and pitched a strong seven innings where he surrendered three runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks. He struckout three. Wilkins earned the save, conceding just two hits in two innings of work.
GAME TWO
Mount got ahead with five runs in the bottom of the first before Capital could get going with one run in the second. That run came thanks to a
Bryce Kyees sac fly to score
Gio Mastrorosa.
The Purple Raiders then added two more before
Ty Clifton hit a solo home run to right in the fourth to make it a 7-2 game.
The next six runs went the way of the hosts, making it 13-2, but Capital would score two more on an RBI single from Clifton and a sac fly from Michael Andryzszcyk to complete the scoring at 13-4.
Offensively, Capital had just three hits with two coming from Clifton and one from
Charlie Colson. The team did draw six walks as well.
Logan Detty took the loss in the start, giving up seven runs on six hits and hit by pitch.
Tyler Bebout (2 IP),
Ben Mohler (1 IP),
Nathan Budill (0.1 IP) and
Noah McMullen (1.2 IP) chewed up the relief effort.

Capital will have a quick turnaround as they return to action tomorrow at Clowson Field with a doubleheader vs. Wabash. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m.
