WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Capital University baseball team traveled to Wilmington College on Tuesday afternoon where they split results, 3-1 and 6-4. The Comets got a day to remember from
Ty Clifton who combined for eight hits in the two games.
Capital is now 11-15 overall and 2-4 in the OAC. Wilmington is 7-11 on the year and also 2-4 in the conference.
GAME ONE
Capital emerged with the 3-1 win over the Quakers as starting pitcher
William Furry tossed a complete game and DH,
Ty Clifton went 4-for-5 from the plate with all three RBIs to get the job done.
Clifton scattered his RBIs throughout, collecting one in the first and one in each the seventh and ninth innings.
Charlie Colson scored two runs, with
Kielan LaMarr scoring the other.
Joining Clifton in the hit column were Colson with three,
Ryne McKinney with two and
Bryce Kyees with one.
Furry (3-1) toss the complete nine innings, allowing just one run on six hits and a walk. He struckout four in the effort.
GAME TWO
Capital went in front 1-0 in the second inning thanks to an RBI single by
Bryce Kyees, but the Quakers tied the game in the fifth and eventually plated four runs in the sixth to go in front 5-1.
Wilmington added a crucial insurance run in the eighth inning before the Comets started to rally in the ninth.
In that final inning,
Kielan LaMarr had a two-RBI single and Clifton also had an RBI single.
Clifton was again 4-for-5 from the plate with another RBI. In total, Clifton was an astounding 8-for-10 with four runs batted in in the game. Joining Clifton with hits in game two were
Ryne McKinney and
Bryce Kyees, each with two, and
Charlie Colson,
Kielan LaMarr and
Gio Mastrorosa with one a piece.
Nash Andrix (1-2) started on the bump and lasted five innings giving up five runs (three earned) on five hits and a walk. He struckout five.
Ben Mohler pitched the final three innings allowing one run on four hits. He added three strikeouts.
