Baseball Falls to Alvernia

VERO BEACH, Fla. – The Capital University baseball team (4-6) dropped their lone game of Wednesday afternoon, going out 8-3 against Alvernia (6-3) at historic Holman Stadium at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex.

The Comets would suffer six scoreless innings alongside being hitless until the bottom of the fourth as the offense struggles to get going. CU's only three scores of the afternoon all came in the bottom of the seventh, starting with a Gio Mastrarosa single to right center that plated Ryne McKinney. Next, Grayson Gulley scored on a wild pitch, followed by Michael Andryszczyk coming across via a Charlie Colson single. On the other side, Alvernia put up two in the first, three in the fourth, two in the eight, and one in the ninth to bring the final scoreline to 8-3.

THE NUMBERS
Charlie Colson reached three times with a single and two walks, recording one RBI and one stolen base as well.

Robby Harrison also reached three times with a double and two walks, additionally grabbing one stolen base.

Gio Mastrarosa went 1-for-1 with a hit as a pinch hitter with an RBI that plated Capital's first run of the game.

Ryne McKinney, Grayson Gulley, and Michael Andryszczyk crossed the plate for the Comets. Andryszczyk also recorded one of Cap's two remaining hits – a double – along with a single from Bryce Kyees.

Colin Boldin (0-1) got the start for CU, going 2.0 innings and getting two strikeouts. He was relieved by Diego Astacio (1.1 IP), Brian Young (2.2 IP, 1 SO), Nathan Budill (1.2 IP,), Jared Carpenter (0.1 IP), and Sam Everts (1.0 IP).
