Men’s Lacrosse Comes Up Short Against JCU

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University men's lacrosse team (3-6, 1-2 OAC) hosted John Carroll (5-4, 3-0 OAC) at Bernlohr Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Despite a competitive first half and a late push, the Comets would run out of gas, slipping behind 13-17.

The Blue Streaks opened up the scoring with two goals in the first three minutes before CU responded with a run of three straight from Ty Chase, Mason Spaulding, and Jacob Poole to take one of their only leads of the day, 3-2. From there, JCU would retake the lead by adding three as opposed to one additional goal by Poole for the Comets, making it 4-5 after one. The two sides would then trade goals to start the second quarter with John Carroll scoring an extra goal to take an 8-6 lead at the half. Cap's second quarter scores were put in by Poole and Colton Woods.

There was a lot of movement on the scoreboard in the third quarter starting with JCU scoring four straight to complete an overall run of six goals in a row en route to a 12-6 lead. The Purple and White would go on to cut that lead in half by the end of the quarter, scoring three straight of their own with two from Spaulding and the other from Elliott Rhoton. Despite the late push by the Comets, the Blue Streaks would go on to close it out in the fourth quarter, outscoring Capital 3-1 to take the game 17-13.
