COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University baseball team battled well for much of the day, but ultimately fell in two games to Otterbein University on Saturday by scores of 6-4 and 13-9.
Capital now sits 10-14 (1-3 OAC), while Otterbein is now 12-10 overall and 2-2 in the OAC.
GAME ONE
Capital jumped out in front 4-0 with runs in each of the first three innings. First,
Ty Clifton had an RBI groundout, followed by an RBI single from
Robby Harrison to start the game 2-0.
Then in the next two innings, Capital scored thanks to an RBI double by
Charlie Colson and a solo home run by Clifton.
From there, the Cardinals scored four unearned runs in the fourth inning to tie the game and then tacked on two more in the seventh to lead to the eventual 6-4 final score.
Trevor Woodyard started on the mound and gave up the four unearned on five hits and four walks. He had three strikeouts.
Casey Wilkins (2-1) threw 3.0 innings of relief, giving up two on four hits and one walk. He had two strikeouts.
Ben Mohler threw the final 2.1 innings of no-hit ball with two strikeouts.
Robby Harrison had three hits to lead the team, with
Charlie Colson having two and
Kielan LaMarr,
Ty Clifton and
Bryce Kyees having one hit each.
GAME TWO
In game two, Capital went ahead 3-0 by the end of the third inning. First,
Ty Clifton had an RBI double in the first innings and then tacked on another RBI on a sac fly in the third inning.
Robby Harrison then singled home
Charlie Colson to make it 3-0.
Otterbein then scored the next four runs to go ahead 4-3.
A wild pitch scoring
Bryce Kyees in the fourth then tied it up at 4-4.
In the fifth, a two-run home run for Otterbein put them ahead 6-4, but a three-run bottom half of the fifth put Capital back ahead 7-6. Those runs came thanks to an RBI double by Harrison and a two-run home run from
Ryne McKinney.
Otterbein then scored the next six runs to move in front 12-7.
An RBI single by
Michael Andryszczyk in the eighth made it 12-8.
In the ninth,
Robby Harrison had an RBI single to make the final score 13-9.
Tyler Bebout started on the mound and threw 4.2 innings. He was relieved by
Logan Detty,
Brian Young (0-2),
William Furry,
Nash Andrix, and
Jared Carpenter. Young struckout four, with Bebout and Andrix each having one punch out.
Capital tallied 11 hits, led by Harrison with three.
Ethan Rodriguez and
Michael Andryszczyk each had two base hits, while
Charlie Colson,
Kielan LaMarr,
Ty Clifton, and
Ryne McKinney all had one hit.

Capital will be back in action on Tuesday, April 1st with a road doubleheader at Wilmington College. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. on Tuesday.
