LaMarr Walks it Off as Baseball Sweeps Bluffton

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University baseball team (8-8) officially opened up their home schedule on Friday, hosting Bluffton (2-10) for a twinbill at Clowson Field. The Comets extended their win streak to three games, sweeping the Beavers by scores of 12-9 and 5-4 with Kielan LaMarr walking it off in game two.

GAME ONE | CAPITAL 12-9 BLUFFTON
Game one was a bit of a back-and-forth affair with Capital starting it off in the bottom of the first as Ty Clifton sent one deep over the right field wall for a two-run homer that also scored Kielan LaMarr. Unfortunately, the lead wouldn't last long as Bluffton put up four in the top of the second to take a 4-2 lead.

The Comets then battled back with two in the third to tie it at 4-4, and three in the fifth to retake the lead at 7-4. In the third, it was Robby Harrison singling up the middle to drive in LaMarr, followed by a Hunter Wilson double down the left field line to score Harrison. In the fifth, Harrison once again singled up the middle, this time scoring Clifton. Next, Bryce Kyees flew out to center, scoring Harrison on a sacrifice fly. Finally, Ethan Rodriguez singled down the left field line to plate Ryne McKinney

Once again, Bluffton responded, tying the game back up in the top of the next inning with three runs, making it 7-7. Cap soon jumped back ahead with two runs in the bottom of each the sixth and seventh, taking a demanding 11-7 lead. LaMarr started things off in the sixth with a homer to left center, followed by a Harrison double down the left field line to score Clifton. In the seventh, it was Charlie Colson with a double to left that brought around Rodriguez. Colson would score himself shortly after on a LaMarr double to left.

Bluffton got two runs back in the top of the eight, but the Purple and White would put the nail in the coffin in the bottom of the eight as Rodriguez singled to score Hunter Wilson. Nash Andrix then slammed the door in the top of the ninth, striking out the side to complete his run of four straight.

GAME ONE NUMBERS
Robby Harrison went 3-for-5 with a double, three RBIs, and two runs-scored.

Ty Clifton also went 3-for-5 with a homer and a double, knocking in two, and scoring three runs himself.

Kielan LaMarr went 3-for-4 with a homer, a double, and two stolen bases, also reaching on a walk as well with two RBIs and three runs-scored.

Ethan Rodriguez and Hunter Wilson both reached three times, going 2-for-4 with one walk. Rodriguez recorded two RBIs and scored one run while Wilson had one RBI and one run-scored.

Ryne McKinney had two knocks and scored one run.

Michael Andryszczyk was responsible for the remaining hit for the Comets.

Tyler Bebout got the start for CU, going 5.2 innings with three strikeouts and only three earned runs. Nash Andrix (1-0) offered relief, making his debut and pitching 3.1 innings, striking out five including the last four batters, only giving up two earned runs in his first career win.

GAME TWO | CAPITAL 5-4 BLUFFTON
As is the current trend with Capital, when one game of a doubleheader is high-scoring, the other one is typically low-scoring, as was the case with game two. Bluffton started off with one run in the top of the second. The Comets quickly took a 2-1 lead in the bottom half of the second with a Bryce Kyees single up the middle that scored Hunter Wilson, followed by Ethan Rodriguez reaching on a fielder's choice, scoring Andy Gill.

Bluffton took the lead back with one in the fifth and two in the sixth, making it 4-3. CU then tied it up in the bottom of the sixth with Gio Matrorosa scoring on a Hunter Wilson double to left center. After a scoreless seventh and eighth, Cap held Bluffton at bay in the top of the ninth, keeping the game tied with a chance to walk it off. And the Purple and White would do just that after loading the bases, with Kielan LaMarr sending a single through the right side to score Grayson Gulley and end the game with a 5-4 win.

GAME TWO NUMBERS
Gio Mastrorosa and Hunter Wilson both went 2-for-4 with one double, one RBI, and one run-scored.

Kielan LaMarr went 2-for-5 with an RBI, scoring one run as well.

Bryce Kyees had one hit and one RBI.

Ethan Rodriguez knocked in one run.

Charlie Colson, Ty Clifton, and Michael Andryszczyk recorded the three remaining hits for the Comets.

Andy Gill and Grayson Gulley scored the two remaining runs for CU.

Trevor Woodyard got the nod, pitching 5.1 innings and striking out five. Casey Wilkins (2-0) came in to finish the game, allowing just one hit and striking out two, with no walks and no runs.
