Men's Basketball Able to Finish Strong in a Complete Team Win

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Capital University men's basketball hosted the Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets in an OAC matchup today. Baldwin Wallace started the game off strong, but Capital was able to keep themselves in it. The two teams went shot for shot for the rest of the game, but Capital had just enough to pull away at the end. The Comets were firing on all cylinders and playing impressive team basketball, leading to an 82-76 victory.

The win moves the Comets to 8-13 overall and 5-9 in OAC conference play. Following the loss, the Yellow Jackets are now 9-12 on the season and 5-9 in OAC conference play.

Baldwin Wallace started the game off red hot from beyond the arc, taking an early lead over the Comets. Capital was able to settle in though, and after stringing together some stops were able to close the gap. The Comets played solid team basketball throughout the first half, always looking to find the extra man and finding holes in the Yellow Jacket defense. Baldwin Wallace continued to score though, fending off the Capital comeback. They managed to go into the half up 37-36.

Capital turned up the defensive aggressiveness in the second half, playing in passing lanes more and looking to force turnovers and block shots. This strategy proved effective, and although they weren't able to pull away, Capital was able to take the lead early on in the half. The Purple and White played a more complete half on offense as well, capitalizing on scoring opportunities more frequently. A good number of the Capital baskets in the second half were facilitated by McKane Finkenbine, who led the team in assists and set a new career high. Capital put together a complete team effort in the second half, playing well as a team and utilizing each other's strength. This combined with an impressive defensive effort led to an 82-76 win.
