COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Capital University men's basketball team traveled to Marietta on Wednesday night to take on the Pioneers in an OAC matchup. Despite an underwhelming first half, the Comets were able to catch fire and comeback in the second. With the game on the line,
Se'Ron Calloway-White made a pair of free throws to complete Capital's comeback effort and win the game with a final score of 82-80.
The big win propels the Comets to 9-13 overall and 6-9 in OAC play. The tough loss drops Marietta to 10-12 overall and 4-11 in OAC play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Comets managed to keep it close to start the game, going shot for shot down the stretch. Towards the end of the half, Marietta caught fire, going on a 15-0 run to pull away from the Comets and take a massive lead. A free throw from
Daryl Cooper finally ended the run, but Marietta finished the half strong leading to a 19 point deficit for Capital and a score of 46-27.
Half number two was a completely different story. After some halftime adjustments, the Comets came out looking like a whole new team.
Alex Eyink played like a man possessed, hitting three pointer after three pointer. The Purple and White were finally able to take back the lead with 3:31 left in the game. Marietta continued to fight though, and the teams found themselves all tied up at 80 with 11 seconds left in the contest. The fans were expecting overtime, until the Pioneers fouled
Se'Ron Calloway-White and sent him to the line. With an opportunity to win, Calloway-White started his routine. He took his shot, and with the whole gym holding their breath, he sunk it. With ice flowing through his veins, he made number two and sealed the game and the comeback win for the Comets. Capital scored a staggering 55 points in the second half, and the final score was 82-80.
THE NUMBERS
Alex Eyink was the hot hand for Capital tonight, leading the team with 17 points on 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. He also played hard defensively, leading the team in steals with four.
McKane Finkenbine scored an impressive 16 points while also leading the team in assists with seven.
Dom Moegerle led the Comets in rebounds with seven, while also scoring 11 points.
Se'Ron Calloway-White scored the game winning free throws for Capital to put him at 10 points.
Justin Nixon had a well-rounded game, with nine points and six rebounds.
Daryl Cooper finished the game with eight points and three assists. He also had three steals.

The Comets are set to travel to University Heights, Ohio for a men's-women's doubleheader against John Carroll on Saturday. The men's game is scheduled to tipoff at 4:00 p.m.
