COLUMBUS, Ohio - Capital University men's basketball hosted Muskingum University in an OAC league match-up tonight. Despite a strong effort from the Comets, Muskingum's defense was suffocating. This combined with efficient scoring by the Muskies led to a 90-64 Muskingum victory.
Following the loss, Capital finds themselves with a record of 7-13 overall and 4-9 in OAC conference play. The win promotes the Muskies to 11-9 overall and 9-4 in the conference.
Both teams started the game with a ton of energy, each team having to fight for their points. Some smooth offensive play from
Se'Ron Calloway-White and
Daryl Cooper spurred the Comets offensive effort, but Muskingum's defensive game plan was overwhelming, and they were able to limit Capital's scoring in the first half. The Purple and White won the rebounding battle in the first half, bringing in eight offensive boards. Despite dominating the boards, turnovers proved to be an Achilles heel for the Comets in this game. This In combination with the Muskies' efficient scoring led to a 7-0 Muskingum run to end the half with a score of 41-27 in favor of the visiting team.
Unfortunately for the Comets, Muskingum was able to keep their momentum going into the second half. Their efficiency on the offensive end and their aggressive defense were too much for Capital down the stretch. Despite some hard-fought baskets from
Alex Eyink and some strong play on the boards, Muskingum was able to pull away and beat the Comets 90-64.
