SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Capital University track and field program took part in their final tune-up before the OAC Championships by competing at the Wittenberg Invitational on Saturday. There,
Kolin Brake broke a 56-year old school record in the 1,000-meter run to highlight a strong outing by the Comets.
In addition to Brake's record, numerous PRs were set and two other program top-10 marks were also set.
MEN
1,000-Meter Run:
Kolin Brake finished as the runner-up in the event with a time of 2:30.86 which was good enough to break the Capital school record in the event. The previous record of 2:31.07 was set by Rick Mettle in 1969.
200-Meter Dash:
Cheik Souare clocked in a time of 22.11 seconds to finish third overall.
Dom Glenn clocked 22.70 seconds to finish 11th. Glenn's time was good enough to place him seventh on the program top-10 list.
5,000-Meter Run:
Aaron McNutt dropped a big PR in the 5K, running a time of 16:28.67 in the day's longest race. The time was also good to place him ninth best in Capital history.
3,000-Meter Run:
Aiden Mahony and
Jordan Hull took to the track in the 3K, with Mahony clocking in at 9:28.01 and Hull running a time of 10:06.05. Both times were PRs for Mahony and Hull.
60-Meter Dash:
Dom Glenn qualified for the finals, racing his way to third in the prelims on the heels of a 7.02 second time.
Justin Mathews clocked in at 7.41 seconds in his prelim race. In the finals, Glenn would take the top spot, running a time of 6.95 seconds, which also served as a season-best.
One Mile Run:
Mikey Arnone ran a time of 4:30.68 which sits just three seconds off his previous best.
Zach Glotzbecker turned in a time of 4:42.22 which narrowly missed the program top-10 leaderboard by two seconds, but marked a new individual PR.
4x400-Meter Relay: The Comet 4x400 relay team finished third overall in a time of 3:34.36.
Weight Throw:
Nolan Piper would place 12th overall with a toss of 15.40 meters.
Waylon Yeager tossed 11.54 meters as his best mark.
Shot Put: Piper finished 12th in the shot put as well with a mark of 13.16 meters. Yeager tossed 11.39 meters in his best attempt.
Triple Jump:
Justin Mathews won the event with a top jump of 13.60 meters. The mark beat out the second place finisher by 0.34 meters.
WOMEN
60-Meter Dash:
Zara Brown raced a time of 9.58 seconds in what was her collegiate running debut.
Shot Put:
DeiVon McCullough paced the Comets in the shot with a heave of 10.35 meters.
Mia Sanchez was next with a toss of 9.77 meters and
Secora Jones rounded it out with a mark of 7.91 meters.
Pole Vault:
Alex Wilkinson cleared the bar at a height of 2.90 meters to place 12th overall.
Long Jump: Brown was in action again in the long jump, leaping a new personal best distance of 3.78 meters.
400-Meter Dash:
Jaleea Harvey would turn in a time of 1:07.15 in the 400-meter race.
Weight Throw: McCullough again led the Comets in the weight throw, marking 12.78 meters on her best attempt. Sanchez tossed 12.69 meters, while Jones marked 11.21 meters.

Capital's attention now shifts to the OAC Indoor Championships which will take place both February 28th and March 1st on the campus of Ohio Northern University.
