Men’s Basketball Hits Triple Digits in Statement Win Over Wilmington

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University men's basketball team hit the century mark for the second time this season with an exciting 101-86 victory over Wilmington College on Wednesday night.

The victory pushes Capital up to 10-14 overall and 7-10 in the OAC, while Wilmington slips to 5-19 (3-14 OAC).

The Quakers carried an early lead that quickly dissipated as a layup from McKane Finkenbine put the Comets in from 10-9 at the 16:31 mark of the first half. That lead for Capital would remain the rest of the game and would balloon out to as many as 19 points in the second half of the eventual dominant victory for the Comets.

As a team, the Comets shot the ball well in all facets of the game, going 36-of-71 (50.7%) from the floor, 7-of-17 (41.2%) from three-point range and 22-of-25 (88%) from the free throw line. All those efforts lumped into a dominant victory for the Purple and White who electrified the crowd by hitting triple digits on Torrien Perkins' 3-pointer in the final minute of play.

THE NUMBERS
Justin Nixon and Alex Eyink each scored 25 points in the effort. Nixon did his work on 9-of-12 shooting and was supported by five rebounds, three assists and one steal. Eyink's total would mark a career-high and the first time in which he scored 20 or more points in a game in his career. His scoring came on 9-for-15 with three 3-pointers, two rebounds, an assist and three steals to go with it.

McKane Finkenbine would score 15 points and dish out 11 assists for his second career double-double. He added four rebounds and two steals as well. The 11 assists tied a career-high set earlier this season.

Dom Moegerle netted 14 points to go with two boards, two assists and three steals.

Others chipping in on the action were Brody Gowen (8 points), Eljae Deas (6), Se'Ron Calloway-White (3), Torrien Perkins (3), and Daryl Cooper (2).
