Men’s Basketball’s Season Comes to a Close against Otterbein

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University men's basketball team (10-15, 7-11 OAC) hosted rival Otterbein (14-11, 9-9 OAC) on Saturday night in the 2025 edition of the Battle for the Oar. Unfortunately for the Comets, the night would ultimately end in a 17-point loss, 79-62, thus bringing the 2024-25 season to a close with Cap coming up short of earning an OAC Tournament spot.

On the bright side, the night also served as senior night for the Comets as they celebrated the careers of their four seniors Alex Eyink, Ryan Sauline, Dom Moegerle, and Justin Nixon prior to tipoff.

As far as the game goes, the Purple and White would hang with Otterbein quite well in the first half, staying just three points behind at the break. Brody Gowen led the scoring efforts with nine points, followed by McKane Finkenbine with eight and Ryan Suever with six.

However, the second half was where Capital started to slip behind, being outscored 43-29 for a final score of 79-62. Se'ron Calloway-White and Daryl Cooper were the leading scorers in the second half with nine and seven points respectively.

THE NUMBERS
Se'Ron Calloway-White led the Comets with 11 points as well as five rebounds one assist, one block, and one steal.

Brody Gowen would end with nine points alongside four rebounds and one block.

McKane Finkenbine and Dom Moegerle both finished with eight points. Moegerle added five rebounds, one assist, one block, and one steal. Finkenbine made for an additional three assists, two steals, and one rebound. 

Alex Eyink and Daryl Cooper both scored seven points with Eyink dishing out a team-high six assists alongside two rebounds, one block and one steal, and Cooper recording one rebound, one assist, and one steal.

Justin Nixon and Ryan Suever both had six points. Nixon notched team-highs seven rebounds, three steals, and two blocks. Suever secured four rebounds.

Eljae Deas made one steal.
