NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Capital University track and field team competed this weekend as a split squad with
Cheik Souare and
Justin Mathews competing at the Akron University Invitational on Friday, and the rest of the squad going to Muskingum's Muskie Meet #3 on Saturday.
On Friday, Souare highlighted the action by lowering his own school record in the 200-meter dash, while on Saturday, the Comets saw four other events set new top-10 marks in program history.
FRIDAY: MEN at AKRON
200-Meter Dash:
Cheik Souare lowered his newly set school record by clocking a time of 22.03 seconds. He had previously set the record last weekend at 22.05 seconds. He placed sixth overall in the event as the only D3 runner in the field.
60-Meter Dash: Souare clocked in at 7.02 seconds in the 60-dash prelims to qualify for the finals, again as the only D3 competitor. In the finals, he placed sixth overall in 7.00 seconds flat.
Long Jump:
Justin Mathews lept a distance of 6.12 meters to finish ninth in the field.
Triple Jump: Mathews again lept in the triple jump, marking a measure of 12.51 meters to finish sixth.
SATURDAY: MEN at MUSKINGUM
3,000-Meter Run:
Jordan Hull ran the 3K for the Comet men, placing 12th in 10:30.84.
One Mile Run:
Mikey Arnone led the Comets in the one mile run, placing fifth in 4:39.01. He was followed by
Aiden Mahony (4:46.72) and
Aaron McNutt (4:54.49).
800-Meter Run:
Kolin Brake led the Comets in the 800, placing second with a time of 1:59.19. His time was good to place him second all-time in Capital history and made him just the fifth Capital runner to break two minutes in the event.
Aiden Mahony (2:12.35) and
Aaron McNutt (2:14.01) finished sixth and seventh to round it out for Cap.
Shot Put:
Bo Baker finished fourth overall with his best throw marking 14.21 meters, a new personal best that strengthens his one 10th all-time mark in Cap history.
5,000-Meter Run:
Zach Glotzbecker placed second overall in a time of 15:57.03. That time was good enough to improve his own hold on third all-time at Capital in the indoor 5K. It also marked his first showing under 16 minutes.
4x400-Meter Relay: The Comet 4x400-meter relay team circled the track in 3:38.75 beating out their opposition to take the top spot in the event.
SATURDAY: WOMEN at MUSKINGUM
60-Meter Dash:
Jaleea Harvey placed 10th overall in a time of 8.52 seconds in the short sprint.
3,000-Meter Run:
Olivia Ellis placed eighth overall in the 3K with a time of 11:42.60.
One Mile Run:
Elizabeth Mak finished fourth with a time of 5:53.92, while
Catherine Schaub was 10th in 6:06.63.
200-Meter Dash: Harvey was at it again in the sprints, placing eighth in the 200 with a time of 28.47 seconds.
Weight Throw:
Mia Sanchez led Cap with a 17th place finish and a mark of 10.97 meters.
Secora Jones was 24th with a toss of 9.87 meters.
Shot Put: Sanchez tossed a mark of 9.40 meters in the shot, finishing 14th. Jones was 18th overall with a mark of 8.00 meters.
Long Jump:
Zara Brown lept a distance of 3.57 meters in the long jump to finish ninth.
Pole Vault:
Alex Wilkinson cleared the bar at 2.95 meters, which is a new PR and bumps her up to seventh all-time in the event at Capital. She finished sixth overall in the event.
UP NEXT
Capital will stay local to central Ohio by heading to the All-Ohio Championships on Saturday, February 15th. The event will be hosted by Otterbein in 2025.
