Men’s Hoops Completes the Season Sweep of ONU

ADA, Ohio – The Capital University men's basketball team utilized a strong second half in which they out-scored the Ohio Northern Polar Bears 38-28 to catapult themselves back into the win column with a 69-64 result.

The win makes Capital 7-12 overall and 4-8 in the conference, while ONU slips to 10-9 (4-8 OAC). The victory for the Purple and White also secured the season sweep of ONU as the Comets also won the home fixture by a score of 100-90 back in December.

The tale of the game was an efficient shooting performance by Capital who converted just under 47% of their shot attempts, a third of their three-pointers and 21 of their free throw attempts. On defense, Cap held the Polar Bears to 38% shooting and 25% from beyond the arc while only allowing 15 made free throws.

Out of the halftime intermission, ONU started on the front foot, going in front by seven points at 38-31. From there back-to-back buckets from Daryl Cooper kickstarted a a Comet run that eventually put CU in front 48-47. The run was capped off by a layup from McKane FInkenbine with 14:23 left in the half.

From that point on, both teams exchanged leads as the game stayed within one or two points until the final 26 seconds as Se'Ron Calloway-White iced the game from the free throw line, converting four charity shots in those waning seconds.
