Comets' Comeback Attempt Falls Short Against Baldwin Wallace

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Capital came up just short Friday night, falling 79–76 to Baldwin Wallace in a closely contested Ohio Athletic Conference match-up at the Capital Center.

The Comets (5-6, 1-3 OAC) trailed 35–31 at halftime before mounting a strong second-half push, outscoring the visitors 45–44 over the final 20 minutes. Capital tied the game multiple times late, but Baldwin Wallace converted key free throws in the closing seconds to secure the win.

Se'Ron Calloway-White led all scorers with 22 points, adding eight rebounds and four assists in 37 minutes of action. Chris Mitchell recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds, while also dishing out four assists. Tristyn Ambrose-Pearce provided a lift off the bench with 10 points, and Capital received additional contributions from McKane Finkenbine (eight points) and Dallas Tucker (seven points).

Capital shot an efficient 50.0 percent from the field and controlled the interior, scoring 50 points in the paint. The Comets also capitalized at the free throw line, finishing 16-for-21, including 15 makes in the second half. Capital forced 11 turnovers and tallied 10 second-chance points.

Baldwin Wallace connected on 10 three-pointers and finished with 15 second-chance points, helping the visitors maintain narrow leads throughout a game that featured nine lead changes and five ties.

Capital trimmed the deficit to three in the final seconds and had opportunities late, but was unable to complete the comeback before the final buzzer.

Capital will be back in action on Tuesday, Dec. 30 to take on Alma College in a non-conference contest.  The game will tip-off at 2 PM.
