ADA, Ohio - The Capital University men's basketball team dropped a tightly contested Ohio Athletic Conference match-up on Saturday afternoon, falling 87–83 to Ohio Northern University at the ONU Sports Center. With the loss, the Comets drop to 5-4 overall and 1-2 in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play. Meanwhile, the Polar Bears rise to 5-4 overall and 1-1 in conference.
The Comets battled throughout the afternoon, shooting an efficient 56.1 percent from the field and 41.7 percent from three-point range, but Ohio Northern's late-game execution at the free-throw line proved to be the difference.
Capital held a 40–35 advantage late in the first half before Ohio Northern closed the period on an 8–0 run, capped by a three-pointer in the final seconds to take a 43–40 halftime lead. The second half featured seven lead changes as both teams traded baskets in a physical, fast-paced contest.
Dallas Tucker led all scorers with 22 points for Capital, going 9-of-12 from the floor while adding three steals and three assists. Chris Mitchell added 14 points and five rebounds, while Cade Davies provided a spark off the bench with 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Se'Ron Calloway-White chipped in 13 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Ohio Northern built its largest lead of the game at 10 points midway through the second half, but Capital responded with timely baskets to cut the deficit to just two points in the final minute. Tucker scored four points in the final 15 seconds to keep the Comets within striking distance, but Ohio Northern sealed the win at the free-throw line in the closing moments.
Ohio Northern was led by Aiden Harris, who scored 18 points, including several key free throws down the stretch. Will Miller added 15 points, while Theo Maag contributed 12 points and seven rebounds.
Capital finished with 21 bench points and held a 38–38 edge in points in the paint, but the Polar Bears converted 18-of-25 free throws compared to Capital's 9-of-12, helping ONU secure the four-point victory.
