COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Capital University men's basketball team kicked off regular season play on Saturday, Nov. 8 with a non-conference match-up against Earlham College. After a slow start, the Comets would overcome a double-digit deficit and take a 72-63 victory over the Quakers. With the win, Capital begins the season 1-0. Meanwhile, Earlham begins 0-1.
The first half would be dominated by the Quakers, as their lead would grow up to as big as 15 points. They would shoot 60 percent from the field and go 7-15 from beyond the arc to take an 11 point lead into the locker room at the half.
Despite the deficit, the Comets would not give in, coming out with a different energy to begin the second half of play.
Making two quick three pointers to get things started was
Julian Mitchell, cutting the Earlham lead to just seven. This quick outburst would lead to the junior finishing with 13 points in the contest.
Trailing by just three with 14 minutes remaining,
McKane Finkenbine would hit a huge three to knot the game at 44-44. The Anna native would begin his senior season with 11 points in this one.
After about eight minutes of back and forth play, the score would once again be tied at 61 with just over six minutes remaining. The Comets would get a much needed six point run, capped off by a steal and fast break dunk from
Julian Mitchell. With the lead, Capital would not look back and hold on to take the 72-63 victory.
Leading the Comets offensively was sophomore transfer
Dallas Tucker, who would finish with 18 points on 8-11 shooting from the floor. He would add three rebounds and four assists to finish his day.
Julian Mitchell,
Chris Mitchell, and
McKane Finkenbine would all finish with double digit scoring, recording 13, 12, and 11 points respectively.

The Comets will be back in action on Wednesday, Nov. 12 when they will be back at home to take on Kenyon. The game will tip-off at 7 pm.
