COLUMBUS, Ohio - Capital University men's basketball hosted the Kenyon College Owls in a non-conference match-up. The first half saw a lot of back and forth action with both teams fighting to gain the momentum. The Comets found themselves trailing 38-35 at the half. After some halftime adjustments Capital was able to take the lead back, but that would change as the Owls continued to fight. The turning point for the Comets was when
Se'Ron Calloway-White drilled a three to give Capital the lead followed by a fast break layup to make the score 62-58. With time winding down, Kenyon was forced to foul and the Comets finished the game at the free throw line, leading to a final score of 80-74. The win improves Capital to 2-0 on the year while the loss makes Kenyon 1-1.
Â
The first half was close throughout, with both teams playing solid defense. The Comets struggled to score at the rim early on, but were propelled offensively by
Julian Mitchell's 12 points on a perfect four of four from beyond the arc. Three-pointers were the strength of the offense during the first half as Capital shot 52.9% from three as a team. Despite a solid shooting display from the Comets, neither team was able to pull away. Kenyon scored some nice baskets of their own and found themselves up 38-35 going into the half.
Â
After some halftime adjustments Capital started the second half hot. The Comets were able to take the lead back after a 6-0 run to start the half, looking solid at both ends of the floor. Kenyon was able to find their footing though and took the lead back shortly after. Capital continued to chip away at the Owl's lead until
Chris Mitchell hit a three to tie it for the Comets. Not long after that,
Se'Ron Calloway-White started to take over the game offensively. Calloway-White hit a three-pointer to put the Comets up two followed by a fast break layup that forced a Kenyon timeout. With around two minutes left to play, Capital took all the momentum. Dallas Turner stole the ball from the Owls and passed it up the court to Calloway-White who dunked over a Kenyon defender, getting fans out of their seats and onto their feet. Kenyon wasn't able to reign the game back in, and with time winding down they were forced to foul. Capital finished the game at the line to secure a 80-74 win.
