DELAWARE, Ohio - Capital University men's basketball team traveled to Delaware to face off against Ohio Wesleyan University in a non-conference match-up. Both teams were aggressive defensively in the first half, leading to a couple of shot clock violations by both teams. The second half was a completely different story. Each team found their rhythm and were trading buckets until the end when the Bishops were able to pull away, leading to a final score of 77-69.
Â
The loss makes the Comets 4-2 as they move through their non-conference schedule. Following the win, the Battling Bishops are now 3-3 on the year.
Â
Strong defense was the story of the first half, both teams being aggressive and pressuring the ball. Capital's defense kept it close as both teams struggled offensively. Despite only allowing 28 points, the Comets still trailed by three going into halftime leading to a score of 28-25.
Cade Davies had an impressive first half on offense, scoring 12 of the Comets 25.
Â
The second half was a complete 180 from the first. Both teams found their stride and were trading blows for a very back and forth type of game.
Cade Davies continued to lead the Comets offensively until he fouled out near the end of the game. The high-low post trio of
Kamran Ensley,
Torrien Perkins, and
Chris Mitchell gave the Bishops trouble defensively. Even as OWU tried to pull away,
Chris Mitchell got the ball on the block and slammed it home with two hands to keep the Comets in it. With time running down, Capital was forced to press to try and take the lead, but OWU was able to keep control leading to a final score of 77-69.
