Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Comets Drop a Back and Forth Contest with Wittenberg

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The men's basketball team was once again at home on Saturday, Nov. 22 to take on Wittenberg University in a non-conference affair.  It would be very tightly contested throughout, as there would be 11 lead changes and no one side pulling away by more than seven points.  Wittenberg would take the lead in the final two minutes to earn the 67-63 victory.  With the result, both teams now stand at 4-1 on the season.

Coming out of the gates hot from beyond the three point line was the Comets, finishing the first half 4-6 while the Tigers would shoot just 2-9.  These 12 points from beyond the arc would lead to a 36-30 ballgame in favor of Capital at the break.

The second half would be a different story, however, with the Comets going cold offensively.  They would go 7-24 from the field, including 1-8 from three.

After only shooting two free throws in the first half, Wittenberg would put the game on ice late in the second with the help of 11-13 shooting from the charity stripe down the stretch.  Down by one with just over three minutes to play, the Tigers capitalized on five straight free throw attempts to put the game out of reach.

Leading the scoring for the Comets was McKane Finkenbine, who finished with 14 points.  The senior would go a perfect 5-5 from the line and add two rebounds.

Both Chris Mitchell and Brody Gowen would finish with a team high 12 rebounds and two blocks in the game.  Mitchell would add seven points while Gowen would finish with nine.
