Women's Soccer Drops Close Fight at Home

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Capital University women's soccer hosted Heidelberg in a conference matchup on Wednesday night. The Comets took control in the first half, scoring two goals and keeping the ball in the opposing half a majority of the time. After an early second half goal by Sofia Walton, the Student Princes were able to respond with four unanswered including a game-winner in the final minute to win the game with a final score of 4-3.

The win improves Heidelberg to 4-5-2 (1-1 in conference play). The tough loss moves Capital to 6-4-1 (1-1 in conference play).

Capital was in control for most of the first half. Some near misses early on kept the pressure on Heidelberg's defense until Brooklyn Herbert was able to break through in the ninth minute with a goal off the rebound of saved shot by Juli Sprague. After some back and forth, Bella Leonetti was able to break the silence with an impressive goal in the 33rd minute off an assist from Caitie Byars. That would be the final score of the first half, leading to a 2-0 Capital lead.

The Comets started the second half strong with a well-placed ball by Sofia Walton that found the back of the net in the 54th minute, assisted by Bella Leonetti. Despite the strong start from the Purple and White, Heidelberg was able to score 4 unanswered to end the match. With fans expecting a tie, the Student Princes scored on a free kick in the final minute to win the match 4-3.

Liv Alford finished the match with four saves.
