COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University volleyball team opened up with a very efficient first set, but could not sustain their offense en route to a 3-0 loss at the hands of Baldwin Wallace on Saturday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets took the sets in order 25-23, 25-18 and 25-13.
Capital is now 2-14 overall and 0-1 in the OAC, while BW is 10-9 overall and 1-0 in conference action.
Both teams opened with a highly efficient first set with each side landing 18 kills. The Yellow Jackets benefitted on the two point set-win as the Comets had two more errors than BW. After that opening set, the Yellow Jackets kept up their offensive prowess, while the Comets couldn't quite keep pace.
In the end, Capital's offense was led by
Abby Reed who landed eight kills, followed closely by seven kills from both
Ryann Bunyak and
Chloe Preocanin.
Samaree Perkins finished with six kills.
Kenadee Winters and Carleee Thompson shared setting duties with Winters setting up 16 assists and Thompson finishing with 12 helpers.
Abby Brunner led the back row with 24 digs followed by Preocanin with nine and Winters and Thompson each finishing with eight.
At the service line, Capital landed three aces – one each from Perkins, Winters and Thompson.
At the net,
Abby Reed and
Olivia Milton each had a solo block and combined on another block as well.
