Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Takes Down Wilmington 1-0

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Capital University women's soccer hosted the Wilmington College Quakers in an OAC matchup. The Quakers came into the game undefeated in conference play, but a great second effort goal by Juli Sprague in the 20th minute gave Capital a 1-0 lead that they would hold onto until the end of game. A combination of good defense and offensive pressure throughout the game pushed the Comets to victory.

The win boosts the Comets to 8-4-2 overall and 3-1-1 in OAC play. The loss makes the Quakers 9-4-3 overall and 4-1-1 in OAC play.

Capital started off strong in the first half, controlling the pace of the game while being aggressive on offense. The Comets had a few good opportunities early on but were unable to break through the Quaker defense. Capital's golden opportunity came in the 20th minute when Taylor Marcum fired a shot that bounced off the keeper's hands, landing right in front of Juli Sprague who guided the ball home to take a 1-0 lead. Wilmington had some good looks of their own, but the Comet defense stayed strong allowing Capital to hold their lead going into halftime.

The Purple and White were able to keep control of the ball for a large part of the second half, narrowly missing on a few scoring opportunities. Wilmington continued to fight, but Liv Alford's four second half saves secured the shutout for Capital, leading to a final score of 1-0.

Juli Sprague scored the lone goal assisted by Taylor Marcum, while Liv Alford secured the shutout with six saves.
