GAMBIER, Ohio - The Capital University volleyball team was back in action on Friday, Oct. 17 for a non-conference match-up with Kenyon College. In a five set nail-biter, the Comets would ultimately fall in five sets. With the loss, Capital drops to 2-18 on the season. Meanwhile, Kenyon raises their record to 5-15.
Capital would get off to a slow start in this one, dropping the first set by a score of 14-25. However, they would respond in a big way in set two. The Comets would go on a run, with their biggest lead reaching six points after a kill from
Chloe Preocanin made the score 16-10. Despite a comeback effort from Kenyon, Capital would hold on to win the set 26-24.
The close play would continue in set three, as neither team saw their lead grow over three points. After the Comets retook the lead late, the Owls would fight back and take the set 25-23. Once again, Capital would refuse to back down, as they stormed back to take set four by a score of 25-15.
As to be expected in this five set thriller, the final set was close throughout. The game would be locked at seven apiece after a kill from Capital's
Ryann Bunyak. For the remainder of the game, however, the Comets would be outscored 8-4 and Kenyon would take the final set 15-11.
Leading Capital in this one would be
Chloe Preocanin, as she recorded a career high 17 kills in this one. The junior leads the team with 160 kills this season.
Orchestrating the Comet offense was
Carlee Thompson, who finished the match with 42 assists.

The Comets will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 18 when they will be back at home to take on Ohio Northern University. The match will begin at 1 pm.
