WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Capital University track and field team ventured across town to take part in the Otterbein Invitational on Saturday, where the team put forth some quality performances all around the event list.
Notably, Capital put forth six program top-10 times and distances on the day.
MEN
60-Meter Dash:
Cheik Souare led a trio of Comets in the event by qualifying second in the prelims with a time of 7.02 seconds.
Justin Mathews (7.35 seconds) and Nate Archibald (8.01s) rounded out the Cap showing in prelim action. In the finals heat, Souare placed third overall, clocking in at 6.98 seconds. His time was good for third all-time in Cap history and marks just the third different student-athlete to break the seven second threshold.
200-Meter Dash: Archibald was in action again in the full-lap sprint, placing 19th in 26.44 seconds.
3,000-Meter Run:
Kolin Brake placed sixth overall in the event with a time of 9:04.90. That time was good enough to place him fourth all-time in Capital history.
Zach Glotzbecker was next for Cap, finishing ninth in a time of 9:10.12. That time was a new PR and solidified his own standing as the seventh fastest 3K in Cap history.
Gunnar Yates (9:29.91),
Aaron McNutt (9:38.61) and
Aiden Mahony (9:41.57) rounded out the performances for Capital in the event.
Long Jump: Mathews performed well in the long jump, leaping a distance of 6.57 meters. The mark placed him fourth in the event and also marked his own improvement on the ninth best Long Jump in program history.
Shot Put:
Bo Baker won the shot put with a toss of 14.14 meters. His throw narrowly snuck into the 10th furthest shot put throw in program history.
Nolan Piper was next for Cap, finishing as the runner-up in the event with a heave of 13.06 meters.
Waylon Yeager placed fourth with a throw of 11.95 meters.
Weight Throw: Piper won the event, throwing a new personal best of 15.64 meters in the weight throw. His mark was strong enough to move him up to third all-time in the event at Capital.
WOMEN
60-Meter Dash:
Jaleea Harvey ran the 60-meter prelims in a time of 8.48 seconds, placing eighth and qualifying for the finals. In the finals, Harvey clocked in at 8.45 seconds, finishing eighth overall.
200-Meter Dash: Harvey again competed in the sprints, finishing seventh in the 200-meter dash with her time of 28.08 seconds
One Mile:
Elizabeth Mak placed eighth in the one mile run after turning in a time of 5:49.48.
800-Meter Run: Mak was again in action, racing in the 800-meter run. There, she placed second in a time of 2:44.65.
3,000-Meter Run:
Catherine Schaub ran the 3K for Capital, finishing 10th in a time of 12:19.62.
Pole Vault:
Alex Wilkinson placed second after clearing the bar at 2.70 meters.
Shot Put: Dei'Von McCullough placed fifth overall with her best throw marking 10.70 meters. Following McCullough were
Mia Sanchez (9.67 meters) and
Secora Jones (7.29 meters).
Weight Throw: Sanchez placed third in the weight throw with a throw of 12.94 meters, followed by McCullough (12.33m) and Jones (10.85m).
