COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University track and field team opened up their indoor season at home on Friday, welcoming back Capital alumni as well as the likes of Ohio Dominican, Mount Vernon Nazarene, and Wheeling for the CapFam Alumni Classic.
Not only was it the season-opener for the Comets, but being the only home meet of the season, it was also senior day for CU. As such, the Purple and White would honor seniors
Dom Glenn,
Elizabeth Mak,
Jason McColl and
DeiVon McCullough.
MEN
Weight Throw:
Nolan Piper threw a personal best and improved his own 4th all-time mark in program history with a measure of 15.22 meters. The distance was his first time over 15 meters.
Triple Jump:
Justin Mathews won the event with a triple jump mark of 13.20 meters. The distance was good enough to place him seventh all-time in Capital history.
One Mile:
Kolin Brake placed third overall in the one mile run in a time of 4:29.61. The time was good enough to move him up to 5th all-time in Capital history. Zach Gltozbecker was next for Cap in sixth place (4:42.43).
Aaron McNutt (4:56.93) and
Gunnar Yates (4:57.95) rounded out the Comets placing in the event.
60-Meter Dash:
Dom Glenn placed second in the prelims with a time of 7.04 seconds, qualifying for the finals. In the eventual finals, Glenn placed third overall with an improved time of 6.99 seconds.
Long Jump: Mathews leaped 6.34 meters in the long jump to finish top of the pack in the event.
Pole Vault:
Jason McColl vaulted a height of 2.85 meters in his first pole vault competition for Capital.
Shot Put:
Bo Baker placed third with a distance of 13.89 meters.
Nolan Piper was in fourth with a distance of 13.59 meters.
200-Meter Dash: Nate Archibald clocked a time of 26.08 seconds in his debut on the track for Capital.
4x400-Meter Relay: The quartet consisting of
Dom Glenn,
Cheik Souare,
Justin Mathews and Nate Archibald placed second in a time of 3:42.73.
WOMEN
60-Meter Dash:
Jaleea Harvey finished fourth in the prelims with a time of 8.37 seconds, just narrowly missing the program top-10 times. In the finals, Harvey ran 8.52 seconds to place sixth overall.
Weight Throw: Dei'Von McCullough took top spot throwing 12.72 meters. Following her were
Mia Sanchez in second place (12.13 meters) and
Secora Jones in third place (10.64 meters).
Shot Put: McCullough was again Cap's top placer, finishing with a heave of 10.90 meters. Sanchez tossed 9.76 meters and Jones registered a throw of 7.80 meters.
1,000-Meter Run:
Elizabeth Mak placed second in the 1K in a time of 3:23.60.
Mia Muraco placed fourth in a time of 3:46.98.
Catherine Schaub rounded out the Comet performances in fifth with a time of 3:49.09.
Pole Vault:
Avery Hart vaulted a height of 3.05 meters which was good enough to place her 6th all-time in Capital history.
Alex Wilkinson cleared 2.90 meters in her vault which tied her personal best which is also 8th all-time in the event.

The Comets will stay local next weekend on January 18th as they travel to the Otterbein Invitational in Westerville, Ohio.
