Ogden Gets 100th Win as Women’s Soccer Shuts Out Hope

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University women's soccer team (1-3-0) secured its first win of the season with a 2-0 victory over Hope (0-2-1) on Saturday afternoon. Not only was it the first win for the Comets this year, but it was also the 100th win in the career of head coach Matt Ogden, who has led CU to a 100-56-12 record in his ten years at the helm.

The first of Cap's two goals came in the 34th minute when a shot from senior transfer Rachel Austin was blocked by a Dutch defender and found its way to freshman Mayci Sayre. Sayre would muscle it past the keeper and anxiously watch it dribble over the goal line.

The Purple and White would seal the deal with just over ten minutes remaining in the second half courtesy of Avery Hart. The play started with Abby English winning the ball in Capital's defensive half and playing a long ball over the top to a streaking Hart. Hart would then play the ball off a big bounce, tapping it around the keeper and easily depositing it into the empty net to give the Comets a 2-0 lead in the 80th minute, taking it all the way to the end.

THE NUMBERS
Mayci Sayre scored the first goal of her career, joined on the scoresheet by Avery Hart.

Rachel Austin and Abby English come away with assists.

The defensive front of English, Ryanne Michel, Taylor Marcum, Kendra Kovacs and a slew of others held the Dutch to just four shots on target.

Liv Alford (1-3-0) picks up her first win of the season, playing the full 90 and making four saves.

UP NEXT
The Comets hit the road next Saturday, September 14, traveling to Angola, Indiana to take on Trine. That game will kick off at 3:00 p.m.
