Women’s Soccer Stunned in the 90th Minute by Trine

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Capital University women's soccer team (1-4-0) traveled across state lines to take on Trine (3-1-2) on Saturday afternoon. The Comets looked to possibly escape with a tie but would ultimately fall after conceding in the final seconds, 3-2.

Cap pulled ahead early with Rachel Austin's first goal of the season in just the fourth minute. The 1-0 lead would not last long, however, with Trine tying it up only five minutes later. The game remained knotted at 1-1 for quite some time, staying scoreless until just under ten minutes left. First, the Thunder would take a 2-1 lead in the 83rd minute. CU responded in due time, scoring in the 89th to seemingly force a certain tie. Unfortunately for the Comets, Trine would tally another with just 31 seconds left to steal the win, 3-2.

THE NUMBERS
Rachel Austin scored the first two goals of her Capital career, with Taylor Marcum making one assist.

Liv Alford (1-4-0) spent the afternoon in the net, playing the full 90 minutes and making two saves.

UP NEXT
The Comets were originally scheduled to travel to Springfield to face Wittenberg tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. However, due to threats received by Wittenberg campus police, all campus events have been canceled and the game has been postponed until further notice.

With that being said, the Purple and White will play again on Tuesday at Kenyon. That game in Gambier will get going at 4:00 p.m.
