GAMBIER, Ohio – The Capital University women's soccer team (2-4-0) visited Kenyon (1-4-0) on Tuesday afternoon. The Comets picked up their second win of the season with a 2-1 final score over the Owls.
Ava Spirk (1) and
Rachel Austin (3) were responsible for the goals, with assists coming from
Mayci Sayre and
Taylor Marcum.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Capital seemed to have Kenyon's number all along with a 16-8 shooting difference (9-3 on target). However the Owls were the ones to break the scoreless tie early on, with a 6th minute score from Emily Copeland.
Cap would get it back in due time, drawing even in the 36th minute with a shot from distance by
Ava Spirk that found the top shelf.
Mayci Sayre provided the assist.
The Purple and White would find another in the second half, this time coming off of a corner taken by Taylor Marucm in the 62nd minute. Marcum's ball made its way to
Rachel Austin in the box, who headed it down and in to take a 2-1 lead for the Comets.
Things would stay scoreless for the final 28 minutes to give CU the 2-1 win.
THE NUMBERS
Ava Spirk scored the first goal of her young career.
Mayci Sayre picked up her first career assist.
Rachel Austin scored her third of the season to break the 1-1 tie.
Taylor Marcum dished out her second assist of the season.
Sofia Walton and
Lauren Hinshaw (1-0-0) split the afternoon in the goal, each playing a half and making one save. Walton got the start and Hinshaw got her first career win.
