Volleyball Loses at Ohio Wesleyan

DELAWARE, Ohio – The Capital University volleyball team found themselves climbing out of a hole in each of the four sets played tonight, but the team could only muster one set win on the night, falling 3-1 on the road at Ohio Wesleyan University. The Bishops took the sets 25-17, 25-15, 23-25, 25-20.

Capital is now 7-9 overall, while OWU is 9-7.

Across the early portions of the match, the Comet offense struggled to get going. It wasn't until the team found themselves in a 2-0 hole in which the offense started to click. In the third set, Capital trailed 12-8, but from there, the Comet offense came alive with kills from Samaree Perkins and Sophia Sobota. Then, the Bishops committed three straight errors to put Capital ahead 15-14. A Comet timeout with the score OWU 21, CAP 17, allowed the Comets back into it. A kill from Larissa Smith got it started and a block from Samaree Perkins got things back for Capital. The final two points came for Capital on back-to-back errors from the Bishops.

Despite the new found momentum, trailing 2-1 in sets, Capital was unable to take the fourth set, falling by the eventual 3-1 score.

Offensively, Capital was led by Sophia Sobota and Larissa Smith who each landed 10 kills a piece. Chloe Preocanin finished with seven kills.

Bryn Whitmer dished out 28 assists in the match.

As a team, Capital landed nine aces – four from Whitmer, two from Olivia Spillers and one from Sobota, Perkins and Abby Brunner

In defense, Brunner recorded 23 digs and was supported by Sobota (15), Morgan Metzger (12), and Spillers (10).

At the net, Perkins was the leading blocker with three swats, while Sobota had two block assists.
