COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Capital University women's soccer team took on Mount St. Joseph on Wednesday night in an out-of-conference matchup at home. A phenomenal late game goal from downtown by
Grace Estes secured the draw for the Comets, moving them to 2-5-1 and bumping MSJ to 2-3-3 on the year so far.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lions found their way onto the board early, scoring off of a free kick in the 18th minute. It was a back and forth struggle from there, with both teams having nine total shots and three a piece on target. Despite trailing 0-1, the Comets seemed to be in control of the ball for most of the game.
In the 79th minute,
Grace Estes found herself with the ball on the right side of the field, around 30 yards out from the goal. With defenders quickly closing in she sent the ball flying into the upper left corner, tying the game for the Purple and White and sending the crowd to their feet. Minutes later, in the waning moments of the game, the Lions rallied back, running the ball into CU territory to line up a shot. Luckily,
Liv Alford had left her goal and took the ball from the attacker's foot to keep the score tied 1-1 and secure the split.
THE NUMBERS
Grace Estes scored her second goal of the year with the second of her two shots on target.
