Volleyball Dominates Oberlin in Third Straight Sweep

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University volleyball team dominated visiting Oberlin College on Wednesday night, hitting a season-high .281 offensively while playing great defense all over the court. The 3-0 win over the Yeowomen marked the third straight sweep for the Comets and boosted their record to 4-5 on the season. Oberlin falls to 1-6.

The Comets cruised through the first two sets, hitting .321 in the first frame, followed by a staggering .400 in the second set. Behind those sharp offensive numbers, Cap held Oberlin to hitting percentages of just .071 and .059 through those two frames.

In the third set, Oberlin made some adjustments and led for much of the way in the frame, even carrying a lead as large as 18-9. However, a kill from Samaree Perkings at 18-10 swung the momentum as Capital began to chip away at the Oberlin lead. After a one point sideout from Oberlin, Capital scored eight straight to go up 20-19. Simone Daniel controlled the service line while a shared effort of quality attacking from Capital to go with poor attacking from the Yeowomen allowed the Comets to streak back into the set.

Soon after, a three-point swing set up a match point where an Oberlin service error sealed the deal for Cap, 3-0.

Offensively, Sophia Sobota led the match with 12 kills on 29 swings, settling for a .276 clip. Simone Daniel finished with 8 kills (.250) and Chloe Preocanin also landed eight points (.389) on sharp attacking play.

Larissa Smith had herself a day, landing six kills without an error for a .600 clip, while she also set back a total of seven blocks – four of which came solo.

Olivia Spillers was the lead player in the back row, scooping up a match-high 13 digs. Kenadee Winters came up with seven digs, while Abby Brunner picked up six in a relatively tame night for her.

Bryn Whitmer finished the match with 22 assists, followed by six each from Winters and Brunner.

Daniel (2) and Brunner accounted for the Comets' three service aces.
