COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University baseball team fell in two games to John Carroll University on Saturday afternoon, losing by scores of 13-4 and 6-3.
The Comets are now 6-16 on the year and 0-6 in the conference, while JCU is 7-14 and 2-4 in the OAC.
In game one, Capital fell behind early, 5-0 in the first inning, but responded with two runs in the bottom half.
Cade Anderson doubled home
Daylan Barnes and
Connor Feeney's sac fly scored Anderson to account for the two runs.
JCU added some more runs through the second, third and fourth innings before a sac fly from
Arnulfo Gonzalez scored
Ryne McKinney in the bottom of the fourth.
Barnes had an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth to complete the scoring for Capital, but JCU tacked on five more insurance runs in the final four innings.
Barnes was the only Comet with multiple hits and was joined in the hit column by Anderson, McKinney, Feeney and
Robby Harrison.
Trevor Woodyard was strapped with the loss and he was relieved by
Landon Kim,
Braden Lewis,
Drew Pfundt and
Ethan Pollack.
In the second game, Capital struggled to get to JCU starting pitcher Austin Miller, only collecting four hits over the nine innings. The team's three runs came in the bottom of the eighth as
Kielan LaMarr collected two RBIs on a double to left and then he scored on an RBI groundout from Barnes.
McKinney (2), LaMarr and Harrison collected the base hits for Cap in game two.
Tyler Bebout started on the mound and pitched well but dealt with command issues at times, allowing the first four runs.
Logan Detty and
Tyler Sickles ate up the 4.2 innings of relief.

Capital is currently scheduled to play at Muskingum on Wednesday, April 10th at 1 and 4 p.m. The Comets will be watching the weather forecast closely in case any schedule changes need to be made.
