COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University baseball team shook off a sluggish game one loss to defeat Wilmington College in the nightcap of today's doubleheader. The Comets won game two by a final of 4-2 after dropping the opening game 15-5 in a seven inning run-rule.
The Comets are now 8-21 on the year and 2-10 in the OAC. The Quakers are now 3-23 overall and 1-11 in the conference.
In game one, Wilmington's Max Gildea proved to be the difference as the first baseman accounted for eight RBIs by himself as the Quakers tallied 15 runs in the game.
The Comet offense came throughout as the team plated three runs in the bottom of the third thanks to an RBI hit-by-pitch from
Robby Harrison, an RBI fielder's choice from
Connor Feeney and a wild pitch that scored a run.
Cap added their other two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on a towering two-run home run from
Cole Boroff – the first of his collegiate career.
Noah Bromberg was strapped with the loss after finishing with 3.1 IP, 7 H, 7 R (6 ER), 2 BB and 2 K.
Logan Detty,

In game two, Capital rode the waves of another strong starting outing from
Tyler Sickles and benefitted from a three-run bottom of the eighth inning to get the job done.
The game went to the eighth inning with the score tied at 1-1 thanks to an RBI double from Boroff that scored
Jared Carpenter in the fifth.
In the top of the eighth, Wilmington took a 2-1 lead, but the Comets responded with a three-run rally in the bottom half of the inning to go in front by the deciding score of 4-2. First,
Arnulfo Gonzalez's RBI single to center scored Feeney. Then, pinch runner
Scott Moats scored on Boroff's sacrifice fly. Then the final insurance run came thanks to an RBI single from
Kielan LaMarr that scored Carpenter.
Tyler Sickles threw a full seven inning of work and allowed just six hits, four walks and two unearned runs all while striking out nine Quakers.
Drew Pfundt tossed the final two innings of the game and earned his first career win conceding just one walk while striking out two in his scoreless and hitless relief.
