COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University baseball team hosted Mount Union at Huntington Park on a beautiful Saturday afternoon where they fell in two games via scores of 9-3 and 16-6. Huntington Park is the home of AAA minor league ball club Columbus Clippers and is nestled in the heart of the arena district in downtown Columbus, Ohio.
With the losses, Capital drops to 7-19 overall and 1-9 in the OAC. Mount improves to 19-8 and 6-4 in the conference.
In game one, both starting pitchers started very well, carrying a scoreless game into the bottom of the fifth inning. In that frame, Cap's
Cole Boroff broke the deadlock as his RBI single scored
Connor Feeney.
From there, the Purple Raiders rattled off eight straight runs before Cap could respond in the bottom of the eighth. In that frame,
Kielan LaMarr singled home
Robby Harrison to make it 8-2.
After another Mount run in the top of the ninth, Harrison drove in a run on a single to center in the bottom of the ninth to bring the final score to 9-3 in favor of the visitors.
Cap's offense accounted for seven hits – two each from Harrison and Feeney and one a piece from LaMarr, Boroff, and
Jared Carpenter.
On the mound,
Trevor Woodyard got the start and hurled a strong 6.1 innings. He ended with the loss after allowing 7 H, 5 R (3 ER), 1 BB and 3 Ks on the day.
Landon Kim and
Adam Frump ate up the relief efforts.
In the second game, the Purple Raiders offense got going in the first inning and never looked back en route to a run-rule shortened game.
Capital's first run of the game came in the bottom of the third on an RBI single from
Scott Moats.
The Comets would tack on two more in the bottom of the fourth after
Arnulfo Gonzalez hit an RBI ground-rule double and
Robby Harrison beat out an infield single to score a run as well.
After a final insurance run from Mount came, Capital would go on to score three more runs in the game. First, Gonzalez would pick up another RBI on a single through the left side. Then an inning later, Feeney hit a single to center that scored Moats and
Max Andrich.
Offensively, the Comets scattered nine hits in game two – three from Feeney, two each from Gonzalez and Andrich and one each from Moats, and Harrison.
Tyler Bebout started on the hill and was strapped with the loss, finishing with 1.1 IP, 6 H, 7 R (4 ER), 2 BB and 1 K.
Logan Detty,

Drew Stitt, and
Colin Boldin combined for the relief effort.
