VERO BEACH, Fla. – The Capital University baseball team (2-3, 0-0 OAC) took on Norwich (0-5, 0-0 GNAC) in the first game of their spring trip on Tuesday night, playing at historic Holman Stadium – the former spring home of the Los Angeles Dodgers – on what is now the site of the Jackie Robinson Training Complex. The Comets kicked off the trip in fantastic fashion, winning on a walk-off sacrifice fly from
Connor Feeney in the bottom of the 10th inning, 3-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
It was a close contest through-and-through with the first four innings flying by at 0-0. Capital was the first to put one on the board, scoring in the bottom of the fifth and taking a 1-0 lead. It was
Michael Andryszczyk with the RBI, knocking in
Ryan Brophy on a sacrifice fly to right field.
Norwich was quick to tie it up, scoring one in the sixth off of a wild pitch. NU would go on to take the lead in the next inning, scoring another on a single up the middle and making it a 2-1 ballgame. The Comets then responded in the bottom of the eight after a
Ryne McKinney bloop single to right allowed
Cade Anderson to advance to third and then score on an errant throw in from the right fielder, knotting up the game once again, 2-2.
Nine innings weren't enough to settle the score as the game headed into extras still tied at 2-2.
Tyler Sickles – who had come in for relief in the eighth – continued to pitch in the tenth, striking out two-straight with a man on second to end the inning.
Grayson Gulley then started off the bottom of the frame with a bang, driving a triple deep into the right-center field gap. In a strategic move, Norwich would intentionally walk both
Cade Anderson and McKinney to load the bases and possibly set up a game-saving double play. In the end, it was all for naught as
Connor Feeney hammered a sacrifice fly to center, bringing home Gulley and giving the Purple and White a walk-off win, 3-2.
THE NUMBERS

Michael Andryszczyk also had an RBI on a sacrifice fly.
Grayson Gulley set up the walk-off with a triple in the bottom of the tenth inning, subsequently scoring the winning run.
Ryne McKinney,
Ben Stevens, and
Kielan LaMarr made up the three remaining hits for the Comets.
Cade Anderson and
